Resumen : This thesis provides an understanding of the structure of the scientific field of research in human genetics, through the study of the dynamics of scientific information shared among Brazilian researchers. The overall objective is to investigate the culture of knowledge production in research of human genetics with a focus on the dynamics of communication and information sharing. It points out that the understanding of the Social Capital of researchers in the scientific field of Human Genetics mobilizes political and social economic resources building discourse communities in areas of knowledge by the nature of the links between the actors and the information they share with each other. The theoretical framework is based on the Pierre Bourdieu's concept of Scientific Field, and Birger Hjørland's Knowledge of Domain. The empirical corpus investigates the search network mobilized by the Brazilian physician and geneticist, Professor Dr. Sérgio Danilo Junho Pena, in the period between 1973-2013/1. The network consists on 184 employees who collaborated on publications in co-authorship. A systematic investigation procedure employs the approach of triangulation methods. To study the structural morphology of the field. It is used the methodology applied for egocentric Social Network Analysis (SNA). It concludes that the production of knowledge in human genetics mobilizes cultural, social, political and economical resources. Researchers in this field share information among themselves around research objects manifested in the form of genome projects. The formation of social capital involves scientists political engagement, participation in industry and university, as a way to mobilize resources to build research networks in human genetics.
