[en] Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are changing the traditional scientific communication cycle and imposing meaningful transformations to the generation, production, circulation, dissemination, retrieval and use of information. They are influencing in different ways and levels the practices and results of the scientific practice, specially the intellectual outputs published in journal articles. This investigation analyses in what degree Brazilian researchers in Genetics, working with Genomics, have adopted the new scientific communication standards introduced by ICTs. The study was limited to the period between 1999 and 2003, when the influence of the ICTs in the Brazilian scene was clear, especially after the creation of the SCIELO in 1997 and the CAPES Serials Portal in 1999. Data referring to the scientific production of the population were treated through the bibliometric technique, more specifically the citation analysis, that allowed the statistical systematization of the periodical titles where the written and the cited articles were published. Qualis classification and availability at the CAPES Portal for the identified serials were verified. To qualify these statistical data, a brief questionnaire was sent by e-mail to a selected group of the population, aiming to identify their interests and motivations in using ICTs. Results showed that these researchers have not yet approved the changes made by ICTs to the scientific communication cycle. In other words, the study pointed that between 1999 and 2003 electronic technologies did not changed significantly the formal processes of scientific communication in this area of knowledge.
